Movie Plot:

Will Varner, a wealthy widower in Mississippi, is disappointed in his children’s lack of ambition and believes they are not suitable to carry on the Varner legacy. When he hires Ben Quick, a young sharecropper, Will sees in him the son he never had and sets out to make him part of the family by promoting a relationship between Ben and his daughter, Clara. As this unfolds, Clara and Jody must confront their own desires and struggles within the family.
