Movie Plot:

Father Daens, a Catholic priest, becomes a champion for workers in Aalst, a textile town where child labor and poor working conditions are rampant and the Catholic church sides with the bourgeoisie. Despite facing opposition, he ultimately forms the Christian Democrats and is elected to Parliament, but must also grapple with his calling as a priest and a champion for workers. Meanwhile, a young woman falls in love with a socialist and faces challenges, including surviving a rape, while prelates engage in leisure activities.
