In Prague in the 1860s, Balduin, a popular and skilled student, competes for the affections of Lydia, the innkeeper’s niece, but his life takes a dark turn when he becomes infatuated with the opera singer Julia Stella, who is already involved with a wealthy admirer and a mysterious doctor with sinister intentions. Balduin’s obsession and jealousy lead him down a dangerous path, risking his sanity and possibly his soul.
