Also starring in the movie is Semyon Svashenko.

Written and directed by Aleksandr Dovzhenko and Aleksandr Dovzhenko.

Movie Plot:

Dovzhenko’s film “Earth” uses the “film poem” style to depict the collective experience of Ukrainian proles, examining natural cycles and exploring themes of life, death, violence, and the impact of Communism. While it was initially viewed negatively by Soviets due to its exploration of dark themes, it offers an idealistic vision of the possibilities of Communism before the rise of Stalinism and the destruction of the Kulack class.
