Movie Plot:

In 1933 Kyoto, academic freedom is threatened and Yukie Yagihara is torn between two suitors, Noge and Itokawa, with different views on the issue. After the academic freedom movement fails, Noge is arrested and years later, Yukie finds him in Tokyo and they become lovers, but both are eventually arrested and Yukie must adjust to life in a peasant village. When the war ends, freedom is restored in Japan and Yukie’s newfound strength and hard work
